Helpful Tips to Avoid or Reduce Deposit Service Fees

  • Some account types may have a monthly maintenance fee. You may be able to avoid monthly maintenance fees by establishing direct deposit, maintaining a required minimum account balance, or meeting a minimum combined balance of all your deposit accounts with TCF®.

  • Check your account balance regularly to avoid NSF and overdraft fees. To check your balance and recent transactions posted to your account, contact TCF Customer Service at 1-800-TCF-BANK (823-2265) or use TCF Online Banking. Remember that the balance information you receive from Customer Service, or that is shown at the ATM or on our online banking service may not include transactions that have not been posted to your account. The order that items are displayed in your online account transaction history is not the order in which these transactions are posted to your account. Also, not all funds in your account may be available for immediate withdrawal or other transactions.

  • With TCF Online Banking, you can create customized alerts that are activated according to the balance specifications you set. You can set up alerts to notify you when your account balance at the end of the previous business day fell below or went above the dollar amount you specify. Or you can set up periodic balance alerts to be sent to an Internet email address or any Internet-enabled mobile device.

  • Record transactions in your register immediately and keep a current balance. To avoid service fees, do not write checks or perform transactions if you have an insufficient balance in your account. Remember to anticipate and record any recurring automatic payments.

  • Promptly correct your register if you receive notice of an NSF, overdraft, or return of a deposited item. Remember to also deduct any related service charges.

  • Reconcile your account to your monthly statement to identify any unauthorized transactions and to ensure accuracy in your record keeping. Notify TCF immediately if you suspect any unauthorized transactions occurred.

  • Use TCF ATMs to avoid fees that you would be charged when you use your TCF card to make withdrawals at non-TCF ATMs.

  • TCF encourages you to use your account responsibly. You should take steps to avoid overdrafts whenever possible.

  • If you would prefer that TCF not authorize ATM transactions or point of sale transactions made with your TCF Check Card or TCF ATM Card when you don’t have enough available funds in your account at the time of transaction, call us at 866-823-4472, stop by any TCF Bank location, or write us at: TCF Bank, P.O. Box 9110, Minneapolis, MN 55480-9110. If you write, you must include your name, address, all account numbers you want included and indicate your desire that TCF not authorize these transactions.

  • Apply for an Overdraft Protection Line of Credit at any neighborhood TCF Bank location.
