GENERAL
  • How does my TCF Visa Gift Card work?
Use your TCF Visa Gift card everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including retail stores, online merchants, and for mail and phone orders.
    • Your card looks like any Visa card, but it is a prepaid card.
    • Spending is limited to the amount of money placed on the card by the purchaser, less any fees or charges that have been assessed against the card.
    • Each time you use your card, the amount of the transaction is deducted from the balance on your card.
    • You cannot use your TCF Visa Gift Card at an ATM.

  • Is the TCF Visa Gift Card a credit card?
No. The TCF Visa Gift Card is a prepaid Visa card that carries a fixed cash amount determined by the giver at the time of purchase. Each time the gift recipient uses the card, the purchase amount is deducted from the available balance on the card.

  • How long can I use my TCF Visa Gift Card?
You can make purchases using your TCF Visa Gift Card until the value of the card has been depleted or until the expiration date shown on the card.

  • Are there any fees associated with my TCF Visa Gift Card?
Yes. See the schedule of fees below.

    CARD FEES AND SERVICE CHARGES
    Initial Card Purchase $4.95
Monthly Inactivity Fee $5.00 per month following 12 consecutive calendar months of inactivity
Card Reissue Fee (Lost or Stolen Card) $15.00 (regular mail); $30 (express mail)

See Terms and Conditions for additional details and information on fees.

  • Does the TCF Visa Gift Card have an expiration date?
Yes. A “Good Thru” date is indicated on the front of the card.

MAKING PURCHASES WITH YOUR GIFT CARD
  • Where can the TCF Visa Gift Card be used?
The TCF Visa Gift Card can be used everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, at more than 19 million Visa merchant locations. The TCF Visa Gift Card cannot be used at ATMs or to obtain a cash advance.

  • How can I purchase an item that costs more than the balance on my TCF Visa Gift Card?
Follow these steps when paying for a purchase using your TCF Visa Gift Card and a second payment method:
    1. Let the merchant know in advance that you will be using two methods of payment.
    2. Present the card and state the specific amount to be deducted.
    3. Pay the difference with a second method of payment - cash, check, or credit/debit card.
It is important to keep track of your remaining card balance so you know the funds that you have available.

  • Can I use my TCF Visa Gift Card at gas stations?
Yes, but give your card to the station attendant and state exactly how much gas you want to purchase instead of swiping your card at the pump.

  • Can I use my TCF Visa Gift Card at restaurants and hotels?
Yes, but be aware that many restaurants, hotels and other merchants may add an automatic tip or other anticipated service charge to the purchase amount when authorizing card purchases. TCF may place a hold against the card balance for the anticipated purchase amount, which may remain in effect until the actual amount of the transaction is presented for payment on your card. If your bill, plus the estimated tip or additional charge, exceeds the balance of your TCF Visa Gift Card, the transaction may be declined. If this happens, ask the merchant to deduct a specific amount from the card and use another method of payment for the balance or tip.

  • Can I use my TCF Visa Gift Card for online and phone purchases?
Yes, but activate the card first by calling the number on the back of your card. When you make your online or phone purchases be sure to use the same name, address, and phone number you used when you activated your card. Otherwise, your transaction may be declined.

  • What should I do if my TCF Visa Gift Card purchase is declined?
Make sure there are sufficient funds on your TCF Visa Gift Card before making a purchase by calling the number on the back of your card. If your transaction was declined, even if there were sufficient funds on your card, phone the number on the back of your card.

  • What if I need to return an item that I purchased with my TCF Visa Gift Card?
You may need to present your TCF Visa Gift Card at the time of a merchandise return. If the merchant's return policy allows, the merchant will credit the amount of the purchase back onto your Gift Card. Remember to save your receipts and the Gift Card even after you have spent all the funds, in case there are any merchandise returns.

GIFT CARD BALANCE
  • Is there a limit as to how much value the TCF Visa Gift Card can have?
Yes. The initial minimum value the TCF Visa Gift Card can have is $25 and the maximum value is $500.

  • Can I reload (add more money to) my TCF Visa Gift Card?
No, the card cannot be reloaded.

  • What happens if there are still funds available when my TCF Visa Gift Card expires?
We encourage you to use the entire amount on the card before it expires. The Card and underlying funds expire on the "Good Thru" date as shown on the front of the Card.

  • Can the card have a negative balance?
Any authorization request that is greater than the card's available balance will be declined. However, there can be times when a Visa merchant puts an item through without prior authorization. If this occurs, the card recipient will be required to make a payment to TCF cardholder services to cover the negative amount.

  • What should I do with my TCF Visa Gift Card once the value is depleted?
Keep your card, even after the balance is depleted, in case you need to return any purchased items. You may be asked to present the card when returning items purchased with the card.

LOST/STOLEN
  • What should I do if my TCF Visa Gift Card is lost or stolen?
Report lost or stolen cards immediately by calling the Customer Service number located on the back of your Card or within your Terms and Conditions. You will need to have the card number to cancel the card and have a replacement card issued. Keep a record of your TCF Gift Card number in a safe place, separate from the card. A $15 card reissue fee applies. See your Terms and Conditions for further detail.
